Erasmus+ GreenTraINT: ideas, innovation and collaboration in working groups between Europe and Seychelles

Students and experts collaborate across continents to co-design solutions for agriculture, food safety, and conservation in tropical environments

On January 29 and February 27, 2026, students from the University of Bologna and the Seychelles took part in working groups organized by Professors Maria Luisa Dindo, Francesco Spinelli, Paolo Trevisi, Lorenzo Barbanti, and Paola Mattarelli (coordinator of the project) in the framework of the Erasmus+ GreenTraINT project (GA 101179780). The initiative aimed to promote sustainable agriculture, livestock farming, and conservation in tropical contexts. The first meeting introduced five thematic working groups focused on horticulture, field crops, livestock systems, food safety, and conservation, co-coordinated by European and Seychellois experts. In the following month, students analyzed local challenges and explored context-specific solutions. During the second online meeting, participants presented their findings, highlighting innovative and integrated approaches. Beyond technical aspects, the initiative fostered intercultural collaboration by combining local and European knowledge and addressing real community needs. GreenTraINT demonstrates how higher education can support sustainable development in Small Island Developing States by strengthening skills, cooperation, and training responsible professionals for the future.
