As part of the HEU FOODCoST project’s ongoing efforts, the event will aim to explore the interesting world of the True Cost Accounting, and discuss how the externalities in food systems can be internalized and how internalized externalities should be communicated to consumers via labels.
By bringing together relevant stakeholders and specialists, and thanks to dynamic co-creation activities, this event aims to stimulate collaboration and innovation and identify new pathways towards “true pricing” with the objective of achieving fair food systems.
The event will be organized as one of the MML – Mobilization and Mutual Learning - workshops planned within the FOODCoST project. The FOODCoST project aims to support the transition towards sustainable food systems by proposing a harmonising methodology to calculate externalities in climate, biodiversity, environmental, social and health along the food value chain.
The overall objective is, thus, to redefine the value of food through tools, policies, and business models that point towards sustainable production and consumption in the food system.
The event will start on the afternoon of the 13th of June 2024 with a roundtable with special guests and speakers representing different stakeholder categories of the food systems. During the second part of the event, two Mobilization and Mutual Learning workshops will be organized. The two workshops will consists of two parallel sessions on relevant topics:
- “Exploring future scenarios for internalising the true cost of food systems” – led by University of Bologna, Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences;
- “Beyond Price Tags: Unveiling the True Cost Label’s Potential Benefits and Drawbacks” – led by Aarhus University and Technische Hochschule Nurnberg Georg Simon Ohm.
