CoLletotrichum Assessment and Re-evaluation to Improve the knowledge on plant pathogenic species recently re-viewed in their TaxonomY

Coordinator: University of Turin

Scientific Officer: Riccardo Baroncelli

Duration: 19/12/2023 - 18/12/2026

Research group: Riccardo Baroncelli, Antonio Prodi, Elena Baraldi.

Colletotrichum is included among the ten most important plant pathogenic genera worldwide due to its scientific and economic importance. The ongoing taxonomic changes, provide an accurate record of species enabling their diversity estimation, the prediction of their ecological role and the development of management strategies. However, is posing different challenges. Recently, the EFSA Scientific Panel on plant health has highlighted the uncertainties on the taxon-omy and the distribution of different pathogens within Colletotrichum.

The specific objectives of the project are: 1) to clarify and update the taxonomy of Colletotrichum. 2) to reallocate tax-onomically past records, new samples and to define host association patterns and the global distribution of Colleto-trichum spp.
