Ecological restorations focus on ‘repairing’ sites whose biological communities and ecosystems have been degraded or destroyed. The Centre for Ecosystem Restoration-Kenya (CERK) is undertaking such a restoration projects in savannah environments, in the Maasai Mara region, in northwest Kenya. The University of Bologna, together with two local (Kenyan) universities, Mount Kenya University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, are collaborating with CERK to build a ‘model’ restoration plan to potentially up-scale it to further areas.
