Incoming students

Incoming Erasmus students

If you want to add an international dimension to your educational path by spending a mobility period abroad, the University of Bologna is pleased to welcome you. The University of Bologna takes part in many exchange programmes giving students from all over the world the opportunity to follow part of their educational programme at the University of Bologna.

To reduce students’ flow to the desks, all Check-ins & Check-outs at Bologna Campus are done remotely.

You can find any other information about TO DO’s before and upon your arrival on this page

Academic Calendar

For the Campus of Bologna, classes will follow the calendar below:

Academic Calendar(classes):

· 1st/fall semester: from September to December.

· 2nd/spring semester: from February to May.

Exam sessions:

· 1st period: from January to February.

· 2nd period: from May to September.

The exam may be written or oral, each lecturer indicating the method in the programme. Exams are held exclusively in person. Make sure to plan your mobility carefully; once you have returned home, it will not be possible to take exams online, even if you have not yet formalized your check-out.

How to search for course units

You can search for course units using the UniBO comprehensive course unit catalogue tool.

UniBO requires incoming Erasmus+ exchange students to select at least 50% of their learning activities within the field of study for which they were nominated, in your case within the fields of Agricultural and Food Sciences.

Almost all the courses of Agricultural and Food Science Department are open to incoming students with few exceptions (check the attached guide to this page for more information). Pay attention to the semester in which the course is held!

UniBO offers courses on four different campuses: remember to choose units within the campus you have been nominated for. Campus change is exceptional and only allowed when there are no equivalent/available courses in the destination campus, with the approval of the referent teacher.

We offer some “I.C.” (Integrated Courses). That means that the “big” (integrated) learning activity is made of single course units with different component/course code, which can be taken singularly by exchange students.

We also offer courses divided into two or more modules (Moduli MOD); in this case you must take all the modules.

How to double check if you can take only one module or unit?

If the course is divided into Modules, you will have just one code for the whole learning activity, while I.C. will have one code for the whole course and two or more single codes for the single units. Only in the latter case you will be able to take the exam for the single unit(s), provided that you fill in your study plan accordingly.

So read the details of each result carefully and use the filters to facilitate your search.

How to consult the list of Degree Programmes

The list of Degree Programmes offered by UniBO is here. You can use the filters to narrow your search according to campus, language of teaching, and study level.

You will find the link to each Degree Programme website. We suggest you click on the tab Programme and then on Course structure diagram to consult the course units offered within each Degree Programme and when they are planned, if in the first semester or in second semester.

Our programmes workload is 30 ECTS credits per semester, but you are free to take less or more, according to your home University requirements.

Please note that 1 Italian university credit (CFU) equals 1 European credit (ECTS), accounting for a total of 25 study hours, that include both traditional lectures, laboratories and your study at home.

One tip: if you choose course units taught within the same year of the same degree programme, classes timetables and exam dates will never overlap.

This might happen if you choose courses from different years or different programmes.

Preparation of the final thesis at DISTAL

It is possible to carry out your thesis preparation or final exam at UniBO.

First you need to get in touch with your Exchange Coordinator Professor who can help you to find a Supervisor for the thesis project at UniBO.

Subsequently, the activity “Thesis preparation” can be included in the Learning agreement. But it won’t appear in the Transcript of Records.

At the end of your mobility, for recognition in your academic career, you must be issued a letter on letterhead, dated and signed by you and the UniBO Professor who followed you in the thesis preparation. The letter should detail the activities, the number of hours worked, the credists you need for this activiti and the period of performance (start and end date).

PLEASE NOTE: it is not possible under any circumstances to take the final exam, nor to discuss one's thesis at UniBO. The only possible activity is that of thesis preparation.

Other general information

SUBMITTING YOUR LEARNING AGREEMENT

You have to submit your Learning Agreement through EWP/OLA system or by uploading it on AlmaRM. There is no current deadline on our side for receiving it, but we suggest you send it at least one or two months before your arrival. Please do not send your Learning Agreement by email unless explicitly requested by our office.

REGISTERING TO CLASSES

After receiving our approval of your Learning Agreement, you will just need to fill in your online study plan accordingly. You will be able to do it via StudentiOnline after you check-in at UniBO by getting in touch with the Exchange Students Desk upon your arrival.

As International Relations Office for the Areas of Agricultural and Food Science, we will help you only with any academic issue.

REGISTERING TO EXAMS

You must register in order to take exams. You can do it on StudentiOnline clicking on AlmaEsami. On AlmaEsami you will find a list of the course units included in your study plan and all exam details (date, room etc.). Registrations usually open 2-3 weeks before each exam date (appello) and remain open until a couple of days before the exam date.

ATTENDING CLASSES

Attendance is not compulsory. Nonetheless, we advise you to attend all classes. There might be some exceptions or specific course materials for non-attenders, so always check the syllabus and introduce yourself to the teacher.

COURSES TAUGHT IN ITALIAN

You can attend Italian taught classes if you do speak Italian. UniBO does not require any certification, but at least an A2 CEFR level is recommended. Be honest in self-assessing your Italian language knowledge: exchange students are treated just as enrolled students and will sit the same kind of exam. You cannot take the exam in a language different than the language of teaching.

ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSES

If you are interested in improving your Italian, check this page. The University Language Centre (CLA) offers Italian language courses that you can include in your Learning Agreement. Check this page for more information or contact: cla.bo-italiano@unibo.it

ACCOMMODATION

Check this page for any information about accommodation.

Important: Bologna welcomes a large number of students each year (more than 3000!) and housing can be an issue. Start looking for accommodation well in advance!
