Abstract of the talk

The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlight the need for sustainable production and consumption practices to create a fairer and more eco-friendly future. People play a key role in this change, through both their purchases and consumption choices, which often go beyond personal benefit and consider the broader impact on society and the environment. Embracing this mindset and encouraging this change means to better align personal choices with shared ethical values. Behavioral science confirms that decisions - especially around food - are influenced by more than purely monetary factors, with environmental concerns, social norms, ethical values and emotions playing a significant role. Food waste represent an unintended consequence of food related decisions where these internal factors (motivations) are playing an important role together with personal skills (abilities) and external factors (opportunities). Where does technology stand in this process?
