Since early 2024, FAO has been supporting Greater Amman Municipality (Jordan) in addressing food losses and waste, in collaboration with the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) and the NGO Let’s Food. This initiative has facilitated knowledge exchange between several international stakeholders and led to the development of a comprehensive food waste management action plan, shaped through participatory workshops. As the initiative concludes, FAO organizes a final international workshop. The event will feature a keynote speech by Prof. Matteo Vittuari from DISTAL, who will highlight the crucial role of local authorities in building sustainable food systems and emphasize the importance of addressing food loss and waste as a strategic entry point for tackling interconnected food system challenges. The contribution from prof. Vittuar will also discuss the significance of multilevel coordination in bridging national and local policies to enable effective and inclusive food system transformation. Municipalities and stakeholders will join this important event to foster collaboration and drive sustainable change in food losses and waste management.
