In the United States, agricultural and food-related industries contribute to 5.5% of the total gross domestic product and support over 22 million jobs. However, the industry also produces billions of tonnes of waste products which impacts our environment. To make agriculture more sustainable and to enhance the revenue stream of our farmers, the whole concept of waste management has to be reimagined. Therefore, our research program focuses on the valorization of agricultural wastes into various products via thermochemical and catalytic processes. The talk will cover various aspects of our program including, the development of electrodes for supercapacitors, adsorptive treatment of animal wastewater, biomass pretreatment, and catalytic cracking of methane. Faculty, researchers, and students interested in waste valorization are especially encouraged to attend.
